On the 25th of November 2020, African Cleanup Initiative went to Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior Grammar School to introduce the Bottles for Pad Project to the students. The meeting was to sensitize the students of the school on the bottles for pad project, its importance to their menstrual hygiene and to their environment.
The meeting started at about 12pm with the Communication Manager of African Cleanup Initiative, Mrs. Blessing Onyelekwe introducing herself and the team members, then she moved forward to talking about African Cleanup Initiative and the various projects she runs. Mrs. Blessing Onyelekwe and Mrs. Remi Balogun, the Executive Assistant of African Cleanup Initiative educated the girls about the environmental implication of the project and the benefits to them which is having a pad as a reward for being environmentally responsible. Mrs. Onyelekwe and Miss Deborah imisioluwa, the Programs Officer of African Cleanup Initiative explained and demonstrated the types of sanitary materials available for exchange when they bring their recyclables. They further gave a breakdown on how the project will work and how many PET bottles they have to bring to get each of the sanitary material. The question and answer session was anchored by Mrs. Blessing Onyelekwe, Miss. Deborah imisioluwa and Mrs. Remi Balogun and each student got an answer for each of the question asked. The school teachers were grateful for the coming of African Cleanup Initiative team to their school and for the project they have brought to the girls of the school and they look forward to the sustainability of the project. They also promised to monitor the students and ensure they all bring recyclables for the sole aim of cleaning the environment and much more the pad donation to the students. On behalf of the CEO of African Cleanup Initiative, Mr. Alexander Akhigbe, Mrs. Blessing Onyelekwe gave the vote of thanks and assured them of the sustainability of the project.
