The Recyclespay Debate Competition 2020 preliminaries was held on the 18th and 19th of November 2020 at Government Junior College Agege, Lagos state with 40 schools from the Lagos Education district 1 participating according to their Zones ( Alimosho, Ifako-Ijaiye and Agege zones) but only 12 schools will be moving to the finals which will hold on the 4th of December 2020. The topic debated on by the junior is ” Plastic Packaging should be banned” while the seniors debated on the topic ” Climate Change is the greatedt threat facing humanity”. This project is proudly sponsored by the Cocacola Foundation.

On the 18th November 2020,  20 schools ( comprising of 10 junior schools for the Junior category and 10 schools for the senior category) from the Ifako- Ijaiye and Agege Zones competed and 3 schools from both categories won and moved to the final stages. For the Junior Category: Vetland Junior Grammar School came first, Government Junior College came second and Ijaiye Housing Estate Junior Grammar School came 3rd while for the Senior Category: Vetland Senior Grammar School  came first, Government Senior College  came Second and Keke Senior High school came third.

On the 19th November 2020, 20 schools also ( comprising of 10 junior schools for the Junior category and 10 schools for the senior category) from the Alimosho Zone competed and 3 schools from both categories won and moved to the final stages. For the Junior Category: Alimosho Junior Grammar School came first, Okeodo Junior College came second and Tomia Community Junior Secondary School came third while for the senior Category: Okeodo Senior School came first,  Abesan Senior High School came second and Unity Senior College came third.

On the Finals, all 12 schools would be competiting on two topics per category. The Juniors would be debating on the topic ” Reuse: A better alternative to curbing plastic pollution” while the seniors would be debating on the topic “Recycling is a means to end plastic pollution” . 3 winners each will emerge from both Junior and senior category on the 4th of December 2020.
