On the 5th of May 2020, The African Clean Up Initiative initiated a special intervention project tagged #MaskUpSlum which is targeted to provide 5000 reusable face-masks to help end community transmission of COVID-19 in low income communities within Lagos. The organization, on the 8th of May 2020, made a call for support online for organizations and Individuals to contribute and donate to the course.

The Intervention was given a face lift today, Wednesday 24th June 2020 as the team from AIICO Insurance PLC represented by Mrs. Abimbola Shobanjo, the Head, Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability and Mr Segun Olalundu, the Head, Marketing and Communications, came to the African Clean Up Initiative office Lagos to make their own contribution of 500 pieces of Face Masks to help ensure more residents of vulnerable Communities get access to common COVID-19 prevention necessities.

While receiving the delegates from AIICO Insurance Mr Alex Akhigbe, the CEO of African Cleanup Initiative appreciated AIICO insurance for her support, he went on further to explain that the reason behind this intervention tagged “Maskup Slum Project” by African Cleanup Initiative was due to the inability of most communities to protect themselves from getting infected by the corona virus. He explained that the move was further necessitated by Covid-19 prevention guidelines released by the presidential task force and National center for disease control (NCDC) on Covid-19 which was in line with the World Health Organisation guidelines as part of the measure for relaxing the lockdown. He also added that the project has seen the support of many amazing individuals who have also made donations, stating that the donation from AIICO Insurance would go a long way in making sure more communities are resilient and able to prevent local transmission.
